Occasional Magic Remixes EP
by Yppah
— Released 18th December 2015 on Counter Records
Fresh from the release of his 4th studio album, Tiny Pause (Counter Records) and a 25 date US tour with Emancipator, Yppah conjures Occasional Magic Remixes from luminary Ulrich Schnauss, improv-virtuoso Binkbeats, the blistering Sun Glitters and umbral Prequel Tapes.

Far from occasional, the brilliance shines throughout. German born artist, producer, DJ and remixer Ulrich Schnauss, ever the aural escapist, purposefully bounds across the dreamy soundscape with pounding drums and bursts through the top line canopy with a lush array of intricate and synonymous synths.
Dutch producer Binkbeats is perhaps most well known for his incredible Boiler Room approved series - 'Beats Unraveled' - where his solo reconstructions of electronic classics from Flying Lotus, Aphex Twin, Caribou, Amon Tobin, Baths and more mesmerise and astound in equal measure. Here, the producer applies that same sorcery to cavernous percussion and a wholly wondrous reworking that flickers between light and dark. Those motifs couldn't be better represented in the respective offerings from Luxembourg's Sun Glitters and Berlin's Prequel Tapes.
The summer obsessed 'SG' mix looks straight at the sun, burning the white hot remnants of a melted vocal loop to the fore and leaving us awash with the signature heathaze of a producer who's received glowing praise from Pitchfork, Dazed & Confused, Resident Advisor and The Guardian, amongst others.
Heading for darker territory we find Prequel Tapes, off the back of his masterful debut album via Fink's new label R'COUP'D, casting an industrial and acidic shadow over his reimagining that's almost unrecognisable, save for the subtle melodies of the original lying true amongst the club regolith.
All four remixes will be released digitally via Counter Records on 18th December. Tiny Pause is available now.
